Thanks to January Nicole Wilson for my introduction to Haiku. This really is a breath of fresh air. And credit to the author for her ability to bring this Japanese style of poetry to a different audience. I hope to read more of her work.
This book was a great pleasure to read. As always, January gives us her own views and ideas about life -- this time in the form of haiku poetry. The Lily and The Aster further develops themes that have been present in her poetry for some time - notably nature metaphors and imagery. She frequently uses the natural world to ground her observations about life and human experience, reminding us of our place and role in the natural world. The Lily and The Aster also contains a selection of travel essays, which reflect on the author's experiences in Europe and Africa and provide balance to the poems included. I highly recommend this book for summer reading; it's a book you can return to many times, each time finding something new and beautiful.
This is a great little book.The poems about Love really touched me in
The Lily & The Aster .Can`t say that I am an expert in haiku poetry
but I have really come to love the poems by January Wilson. You won't
be disappointed.
